David LaVern Smiezek
September 18th, 1948 – April 30th, 2026
David L Smiezek 77, of LaCrosse, WI passed away Thursday April 30th at home with his wife and family by his side, He was born on September 18th, 1948 to LaVern and Wanda Smiezek. Dave was a graduate of Logan high school. He went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. His service did not end there, he continued to give back by supporting fellow veterans throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of Boilermakers Local 83. This allowed him to travel throughout the United States. He always had a story to tell of his time on the road. He was a respected leader and had great rapport with his fellow boilermakers. Building not only a career but lasting friendships along the way. He retired as a site superintendent in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Outside of work he embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved scuba diving, golf and very rarely missed cheering his beloved Green Bay Packers. He also was proud to be a Mason, living by principles of integrity, charity and brotherhood. These values shaped the way he showed up for his family. With unwavering generosity, steady guidance and deep unconditional love. Above all, he cherished his role as a husband, father and grandfather. His family was the center of his life. His legacy of kindness, humor and resilience will carry on through them.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, LaVern and Wanda Smiezek.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Smiezek; his beloved children and stepchildren; James (Heather) Smiezek, Tomah, WI; Amanda (Melissa Gleason) Smiezek, Onalaska WI; Nicole Kunz, Onalaska WI; Kersten (Joe) Voves, Onalaska WI; his beloved grandchildren; Alexis Smiezek, Abbey (Gareth) McNish, Jacob Smiezek, Oliver Smiezek, Kiana Jaderston, Gavin Voves, Kailey Voves and Kaiden Jaderston; his sister Linda (Thomas) Vittum, Collierville, TN; his nieces, Nicole Vittum, Jamie (Ben) Campbell; and his great nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
