Billie Laird Buffington

November, 7th 1946 – September 30th 2026

Billie was the 2nd daughter of William and Onalee Buffington of Sabinsville, PA. She graduated from Cowanesque Valley High School in 1964 and went on to the Practical School of Nursing in Bellefonte, PA. Billie met her husband William Laird in 1968 through her work as a nurse caring for her future mother in law, who asked that she write to her son who was enlisted in the Marines. Bill and Billie wrote love letters back and forth and had surprise dates when Bill would hitch hike from NC to PA on weekend leave to see her. They married March 9th, 1969, and had 52 wonderful years together. Together they raised 4 daughters, had 9 grandkids and 7 great grandkids. Billie dedicated her life to the care of other's always there for her family when any of them needed her, always giving more than she received. Billie worked as an LPN for 46yrs. Working in hospitals and nursing homes across the US. When they finally settled in Johnstown Co. in 1991, this is where she found her true calling of caring for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. Billie went above and beyond caring for her patients always bringing in activities that would help her patients to feel useful and capable and providing them with dignity and respect till the end of their days. Billie had a love of music, dancing, poetry and family. Billie was an open-hearted woman that accepted you as you were and where you were at every moment of your life and through her kindness helped you along your way, even when she didn't know that she had. She will be greatly missed.

Billie has elected to further care for other's by donating her body to medical research.
